Partnering with Student Orgs

To best execute some of the events listed in this playbook, you will need to partner with student organizations. The DAQRI Hackathon, for example, would be very difficult to plan without volunteers, partners to help you organize, set up, clean up etc. It is important to start your relationship with a student organization right at the beginning of a school year, even before you have a specific event/initiative that you are interested in running. This will help set the tone and expectations for the rest of the year. Keep in mind that student organizations will also be equally interested in partnering with you (see table below). Be sure to keep this in mind as you reach out to a student org so you can point out the mutual benefits.

Reasons a DAQRI Rep would want to Partner with Student Organizations

Reasons a Student Organization would want to Partner with a DAQRI Rep

  • Use of student org’s marketing channels for event/initiative promotion

  • Help with larger event setup/execution

  • Potential privileges they have of being a student org (maybe orgs get to book rooms for free, maybe org funding for event)

  • Access to involved students that may be interested in DAQRI opportunities/events

  • Access to an industry partner for events

  • Ability to use DAQRI hardware for their members

  • Potential for DAQRI funding

  • Ability to tour DAQRI

  • Opportunity to invite DAQRI reps to events/panels/tech talks of their own

  • Recruiting opportunities for members

Go to your engineering school’s student affairs office (see Interacting with Your University for more info) to find a list of student organizations in the engineering school.

Some national organizations that may be good to work with are:

  • ACM - Association of Computing Machinery

  • SWE - Society of Women Engineers

  • NOBE - National Organization for Business and Engineering

  • Engineers without Borders

  • National Society of Black Engineers

  • WIC - Women in Computing

  • TBP - Tau Beta Pi

To Partner with Student Organizations:

  • After talking with engineering students and possibly professors, choose one or two student organizations that are strong, popular, and relevant to DAQRI’s goals (tech and learning focused, career oriented etc.).

  • Go to the student organization section of your university’s website or speak to the engineering student affairs office for how to get the contact information of that organization’s president

  • Send an email to president of the student organization stating who you are, what your goals are for DAQRI and how you think the organization and DAQRI could form a positive relationship.

  • You can find a sample email template to a student organization in the following Email Etiquette section.
